About the course

Producing unique designs is the key differentiator of additive manufacturing, compared to conventional manufacturing. This Advanced Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) course, hosted by America Makes, provides hands-on practice with special design methods and techniques and experience with design software tools.

Topics covered in this three-day course include consolidating many parts into one, topology optimization, and lattice/mesh structures. The course includes considerations for metal, polymer, and composite materials, the creation of custom parts, and reducing the need for time-consuming and expensive support material. Who should attend?

This course is suitable for designers, engineers, and managers who want to learn how to design for AM to take full advantage of the technology.

CAD users will gain valuable hands-on experience with software tools and methods, although CAD skills are not required to learn a great deal in the course.
