Tim Caffrey

Associate consultant Tim Caffrey earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at the University of New Mexico. He was employed by The Boeing Company for 10 years, including four years directing the operation of the company’s in-house additive manufacturing (AM) services. He also wrote and performed pre-flight operational tests for aircraft engines. Caffrey served as plant manager of Plynetics Express—which was, at the time, the world’s largest AM service provider. He also served as repair development engineer at Pratt & Whitney where he wrote repair and maintenance processes for aircraft engine components. 

Caffrey brings to Wohlers Associates an industry-specific technical background and 18 years of writing experience that includes advertising copywriting for Walmart’s corporate headquarters. He has worked closely with Wohlers Associates on many projects since 2000, including the company’s annual Wohlers Report, an in-depth worldwide study of the additive manufacturing and 3D printing state of the industry. Caffrey's role in the company expanded in early 2011 and he is currently working on multiple consulting projects and other assignments. He speaks and represents Wohlers Associates at national and international events. Caffrey met with one of our nation's top policy leaders at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy in December 2011.
